Haile Tefera Coordinates Ethiopia Run Events And Orphan Outreach

Stan Cottrell And Dr. Jerry Spencer Announce…

Stan Cottrell and Dr. Jerry Spencer announce with appreciation that Haileselasse Tefera is coordinating the upcoming launch events for The Great Global Friendship Run in Ethiopia in conjunction with his coordination for Jerry Spencer Ministries of over 50 participating organizations and churches, special jungle and interior access for the run and film team, workshops, 5k race, stadium and ministry and orphans outreaches May 30 – June 15, 2013.  Even with the variety of events, the primary focus throughout will be on the orphans and children in need.

Haile Tefera is Director of Source of Light Ministries in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as well as Vice President of the Jeremiah Connection and Coordinator for Jerry Spencer Ministries in Ethiopia. For almost a year now he has been diligently preparing for this multifaceted outreach centered in Hawassa / Awassa in the Southern region of Ethiopia, to which he graciously invited and is sponsoring Stan Cottrell and the GGFR – The Run for the Orphans.

A graduate of Addis Ababa University where he was an outstanding soccer player, Haile lived in the United States from 1997 to 2008 where he operated two different businesses in the Atlanta, Georgia area.  In 2008, he returned to Ethiopia to start his ministries.  He is spearheading the beginning of the SLM ministries in Ethiopia along with East Africa Director, Jack Stiles.  Haile is working on construction of a multi-purpose building, medical clinic and Christian school. Although his family remained in Georgia for the children’s schooling, they are returning now to Ethiopia to help open and run the school and help orphans.

The Plight of Ethiopia’s Orphans

Ethiopia, situated in East Africa on a mountainous plateau surrounded by drought-prone lowlands, is both one of the oldest known nations in the world as well as one of the poorest in Africa.  With decades of underdevelopment caused by wars and poverty, plagued by severe drought and famine, the country’s unemployment rate hovers around 35%.

Wars and famine combined with the AIDS epidemic have caused a surge in orphans and street children in need.  In fact, Ethiopia has one of the largest populations of orphans in the world, with nearly 13 per cent of children throughout the country missing one or both parents. This means more than 4 million orphaned children struggle to survive every day, many of whom have lost their parents to Africa’s HIV/AIDS outbreak.

The Reason Stan Cottrell Runs

Yes, there are laudable organizations and devoted Christian groups seeking to serve this need, such as those directly connected to Haile. But they need our help, for the need is great!

That’s the reason Stan runs… the critical mission of The Great Global Friendship Run… to showcase for the world the needs, give visibility to work at orphanages around the run venues, raise funds for these children, and to deliver direct aid to the orphaned and abandoned children through pre-vetted, approved organizations and ministries who are efficiently getting the money directly to the specific projects and purposes most needed for the children!

Thank You, Haile, Joining Us In Bringing Hope For Orphans

So it is with deep gratitude that we thank Haile Tefera, effective communicator and organizer and our new dear friend, for his tireless efforts.  We thank him for co-hosting with Jerry Spencer Ministries all the events, opening doors and coordinating Stan’s two weeks of friendship encounters and runs in beautiful Ethiopia.  They will be powerful.

And for those of us who cannot be there in person with Haile, Jerry and Stan, we await with abated breath the awesome, unique film footage award-winning filmmaker, Mickey Grant, will be producing during the Ethiopia Run!

Long Distance Runner Joins Ethiopia Outreach

Dr. Jerry Spencer Announces Stan Cottrell…

We are excited to announce that international long distance runner Stan Cottrell has agreed to join us in our multifaceted outreach project in Hawassa, Ethiopia, May 28th – June 16th, 2013.

Mr. Cottrell is launching his six year Great Global Friendship Run from Ethiopia. His cherished appearance in the southern region of Ethiopia is a fantastic boost to the efforts that we have put together to impact this region in a major way.

Mr. Cottrell has run all over the world. We are honored that he is launching this ambitious campaign from the site of our festival in Hawassa. The overriding purpose of this worldwide friendship run is to call attention to the plight of orphan children in the world. Stan is convinced that calling attention to these millions of children can successfully rally international interest in coming to their aid. Allow me to quote Stan,

“Compassionate people all over the world will, without a doubt, generously support these displaced children as they are made aware of their horrific plight. I truly believe that as a result of this Great Global Friendship Run we shall not only awaken people to the urgent need to rescue these children but we will see millions respond with generous help.”/

It will be a euphoric moment when this famous runner comes into the soccer field in Hawassa, Ethiopia. Thousands will cheer him and greet him with loving kindness. The Ethiopian people have hearts of compassion and they will applaud Mr. Cottrell’s desire to rally the world population around these millions of orphans.

Please join us in celebrating the launching of Stan Cottrell’s Great Global Friendship Run. It will foster friendship in every country of the world. Thanks Stan for your untiring efforts at spreading goodness across the globe. I can only imagine the cheers that must be going up from the grandstands of Heaven as God announces to the saints the worthy intentions of this humble servant.
